Allergies

caniscrazy Jul 10, 2004 01:05 PM

Are Rottweiler's susceptible to allergies? Do they experience more hot spots etc than other breeds? I was told to give Benadryl ONLY to a Rotti with hot spots, has anyone ever heard of this?

Aaaand, I'm looking for a few really good sites about this breed. My own breed is the GSD, and while there a million sites out there about them, only a few are exceptional. I'm looking for those few exceptional sites about Rottweiler's.

Thanks for any help you can give!

I give benedryl to my dogs if needed, due to conjunctivitis from the straw in their dog houses, or if they suffer a small allergy(I'm a miserable woman from allergies, so feel sorry for them)

Hot spots. . all I know is to help dry them out, use that green mouthwash stuff LOL

Can't give you any links, but hopefully some of the regulars will

two good sites with lots of info are;
www.rottweiler.net and www.rottweilerchat.com
both of these sites have archived sections that can answer just about any question however, you will have to register if you want to post a question.
Hooch has terrible allergies, his vet reccommended that
besides benedryl you can also used children's sudefed.

Hey,
I know this is a really old post, but I'm replying anyhow. Yes. In my experience my rotts are prone to allergies right around the same time of year I am. Don't know if it's the grass or pollen or what. I give them 1 benedryl caplet and if their skin is bothering them I take a cotton ball and wipe the skin down with listerine. Yeah, the mouthwash. It dries it out and fights any bacteria stirred up from them scratching at it.
