Hi!

I can't help you on the smelly problem, but you can post pictures of your BC in the general Dog Gallery.

Would love to see it!

What do you feed him? The food can have a very big inpact on his odor and breath. Do his teeth need to be cleaned? Try giving him some raw soup type bones to chew on. That will help keep his teeth clean.

Although I agree that raw marrow bones are extremely beneficial for your dog, chewing them is not what helps keep their teeth clean. A raw diet is what keeps their teeth clean. This is a very controversial subject- no question. But by feeding a raw diet you change the pH in the dog's mouth and that is what keeps their teeth clean. Plaque does not develop on their teeth. A raw diet also stops the "doggie smell" AND bad breath! That is unless the dog can get into things like litter boxes for "snacks!" Feeding raw meat, veggies and fruit really does get rid of these things. My dogs' teeth do not give away their age- they present as much younger dogs. And teeth is a basic way to estimate age in dogs. I would be glad to help you out with the switch to raw food if you should decide to do so. I believe there is a form here on kingsnake that discusses raw diets, also. Hard to believe, I know- but none of my dogs have any need to have their teeth cleaned, have no doggie odor whatsoever, and no bad breath. Not to mention much smaller stools, better general health and more energy. These things all changed within 3-4 wks. of changing them to raw food! I ave a BC, a GSD and an ESX.

I feed my dogs raw and they do not have any of the above listed problem.

How often do you bathe him? My neighbor used head and shoulders on her dogs, and they smell GREAT! but don't let them lick it, until they are rinsed well. And I wouldn't bathe him more than once a month with that. It can dry out the skin too much.
As for the breath, if there isn't any tooth rotting, and the teeth seem fine, don't forget to check his ears. An ear infection can cause bad breath, and other smelliness too.

Mostly floppy eared dogs have this problem, but not only them.

Best of luck to you!
