Sunflowers, Zinnia & Maligolds. Are they safe to feed?

Country-girl3 Oct 09, 2003 10:22 AM

Hi all,

I had someone ask if Sunflowers, Zinnias and Marigolds were safe to feed to a Sulcata and since I was not to sure, I thought I would ask all of you.

Could you please tell me what part of the plant is safe to feed and what is not?

Thank you,,

Kelly Wood

Kelly,

I can't speak to Sulcata's, but our Russian's eat Marigolds and Zinnia's right down to the soil flowers, stems, and all. I would be hesitate on the Sunflowers as they have a number of chemicals in the root system that stop any kind of plant growth and those may flow throughout the plant and cause problems with torts in general.
