LIGHT blue eyes????

dragongirly Sep 13, 2004 05:55 PM

My father has a lot of beagles, all of them brown eyes.He has a litter of pups that are around 10 weeks old. One of them was born all white ( has since gotten brown & black on him) but has sky blue eyes! All his litter mates eyes are brown. In all his 45 years of raising his own dogs he has never had one with such colored eyes. whats going on?

I dont think, by looking at such light colored eyes that the eyes will change.

It is just his genes. check the pups hearing and keep an eye on it, he may be deaf. Most dogs that are white to mostly white with blue eyes are either deaf or partly deaf. Good luck with him.

thanks you for the reply. I knew about white/blue eyes deaf thingy. But you said its his genes? thats what is throwing me, all his 'family" from far back as 20-30 years or more have brown eyes. I am just puzzled and was hoping to find something here.

It would be a recesive gene. I'm not up on genes, I use to know more about it. It happens here and there. A recesive trait wont show in a puppy unless both parents carry that gene and the puppy gets a copy of it from both parents. I am pretty sure that is how it works.
