ear cropping

garyreed Sep 15, 2004 04:52 PM

I have a Dobie that is just over 3 months old and was hoping to get some input from other people that waited until now to get there dogs ears cropped. I wont even try it after he gets 4 months old but Im still very nervous about doing it at this age. If anyone has done there Dobies ears between 3 and 4 months old would you please tell how they turned out and show pics if possible.

Hi,
I work in a vet clinic and it is normal to crop ears between 12 and 16 weeks. Dobermans have a long cut and need some taping after the surgery. Did you see your vet already for him/her to examine to cartilage of your puppy's ears ?

Yes, I had the vet check him out at 10 weeks, but he is now over 3 months old.

My dobe got his ears cropped later than we would have liked. I don't remember the exact age though. Probally 3 and a half months. they aren't horrible but we only got them done because of his ear infections so I didn't bother with taping for months.I think the occasional flop is cute. heres some pics You will probally have to copy and paste. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/joceboo/byron_3_finished.jpg

your dog looks great, I would love for my Dobe's ears to look like that. Everyone thinks he is either a Doberman Mix or a skinny, well proportioned Rott. I have nothing against any other breed of dog but A Dobe is far to beautiful of a dog to ever be mistaken for a long haired overweight Rott, especially when his coat is so short.
