Gsd mix size

khurley Sep 20, 2004 02:57 PM

I'm new to this forum, I have a question on puppy size. Ihave a four and 1/2 month old puppy named Asia. Everyone says he looks like a pure gsd, but we were told he's a mix. He's 37 lbs. and about 20 inches at the shoulder. Any ideas on how big I should expect him to get? Once I get some pictures I'll post them to see if anyone has an opinion on his mix.

It is virtually impossible to predict the size of a dog. But 37 lbs. at 4 1/2 mos. is a good sized pup. We had a GSD pup who was 30 lbs. at 3 mos. She was a good wt. at about 80 - 85 lbs. as an adult. One thing you should not do with any pup this size is feed puppy food!!! She should be on adult food! Puppy food has way too much protien that can cause some serious misculoskeletal problems in the future. Food cannot cause such things as hip dysplasia alone- there hasto be a hereditary factor. But feeding puppy food to a dog that appears to already have a prett good start on size can be very detrimental in the long run. Don't help shorten your dog's life or well being cuz you want a big dog!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've been reading a lot about not feeding puppy food, so I've just switched him over, apparently later than I should have from what I've read. Thanks again for the advice!
