New here...new doxie

swtcharity1 Oct 27, 2004 12:26 PM

Hi everyone! I'm new here and have a pretty new puppy. She's a mini-dachshund, blue and tan dapple. She is so adorable!!! (But I guess we all say that about our babies, don't we?) Anyway, I've never had a doxie before, so I was just popping on to read through and get some information and wanted to introduce myself.
Also, I was wondering if it's normal behavior for them to whimper and whine. She seems to do it more and more, following me in the house, even now when we're outside on our walk. She doesn't act unhappy or sick. She was just at the vet's and she was given a clean bill of health. I don't know if I'm somehow encouraging this behavior and that's why it's increasing in frequency. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with that, or if it's just something with doxies.
Thanks! And it's great to have a board to come to and pick up some info from!!!

Hi and Welcome!!!

I don't currently own a doxie, but I just love them. Yours sounds really sweet. I'm not sure about the whining and crying though. Never heard of one doing this unless they are in pain. Hopefully, someone will be able to help you on that one.

You've got to tell us more about her. What's her name? How old is she? We've very snoopy here. Gotta share some pics too! If you click on the Photo Gallery link above, you can upload some photos to share here. Below is a pic of my mom and dad's mini. Her name is Candy.

Oh, that's right...I didn't include her name, did I? Whoops!! Her name is Matilda and she is 14 weeks old. She is a little love bug, but she is very much a puppy!!! She is always looking for trouble!!!
I am going to get her picture up as soon as I can get a decent one. Your parents' doxie is really cute! I wish I could get her to take a good picture like that! I can only take it when she doesn't see the camera or me, otherwise all I get is her nose!!! So, all of my pictures of her a the back of her or the side and from pretty far away. It's like commando picture taking!
Thanks for the info from both of you guys! I do have a call into her vet...just waiting for him to call back. He was in with a patient when I called. She's always been kind of whiny since I've had her, which I don't mind (I'd prefer that over barky). She just doesn't seem like she's in pain in any way, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'll be waiting to see a photo! I love the name Matilda. My folks girl is Candy. She's 3 years old now and my hubby and I got her for them for Christmas. She is a darling too, but I have to take photos from far away usually too. They are so curious about everything, aren't they?

Here's Candy when we went to see her the first time. She was only 3 weeks old.

Lots of physical things can go wrong with young puppies, so at least a phone call to the vet's office is in order over the crying sounds. Things can happen quickly with puppies.
