Please give me some ideas on...........

Brandon22 Nov 04, 2004 11:31 AM

I want to take my dog on vacation with my family in December, but it is hard for me to come up with ideas on places or things I could do that could include my dog..........I don't want to keep sending him to spend the week at a dog sitter because I know he doesn't like that so much.........
Since you are all true lover of GSD and have great experience...could you give me some of your advise or recommendations.....things that have worked for you?..
I would really appreciate it, and once again I would like to say that it is very nice to see a website that can provide us dog lovers with a communication line that allows us to help each other out with the upbringing of GSDs.
Take care

By the way, I live in New Jersey........I understand the options may vary due to the area one resides in, but either way I would appreciate any advise or recommendation.
Thanks

We've done the usual camping with the dogs, and once a year we take them with us to the coast. There's a small house that we rent for a week and bring the dogs. So vacations include lots of dog walking and play. It really doesn't take too much -- they just want to be with their humans. It is a bit of a pain for me since we don't feed kibble, but it's worth the trouble. And if it's warm, we have to be careful about leaving them in the car. Some places even have dog beaches where they can be off-leash.

I'm also interested to hear what other people do.....

I don't have a GSD, but greyhounds. We camp with our girls. I can't say they are real crazy about doing it, but this way we can easily take them with us. Have you ever camped? You can get a tent, or rent a camper. Many places have cabins that allow pets. I think camping is greyt for dogs, as they get to spend lots of time outside with their owners. Long walks, relaxing rests in the shade, maybe even some beach time!

Hope you find some enjoyable things to do with your baby!

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

There are also directories that list dog friendly hotels, motels and bed & breakfasts. Try dong a search for "dog friendly" places. They are out there!

If you get dog fancy magazine, in a resent issue there was a list of things to do and places to go in Bucks county PA/ north NJ. My friend has it now, so I don't have it on hand. I am from NJ, resently moved to PA. You can now take your dog to the beach and there are afew dogfreindly campgrounds.

I know just where your coming from. Me, my husband, and my 5 year old daughter want to go on a road trip / vacation next year and I have 2 GSD's. I'm sure we are going to be gone a week at the very least and I don't want to kennel them for that long. We are in Southeast Texas and were thinking maybe Yellowstone National park, the Smokey Mountain National park,or the Grand Canyon. Hopefully at least one of them has some cabins or something that is dog friendly. Anyways, while I'm looking if I see anything over in your area that is dog friendly I'll definetly let you know.
