nose clipping

msneat13 Nov 14, 2004 05:58 PM

I was interested in purchasing a pug and found one but I am curious about something the breeder said to me. She said she had the nose clipped to keep it from snoring/snorting and help with breathing.

Has anyone heard of this being done on a puppy?
What exactly is done and how does this help?
Is this hereditary?

Thanks for any information

Well, I don't think it is very common, but I was able to find a newspaper article with a picture on that topic. Basically, it's a nose job for correction of stenotic nostrils. The surgery is not cheap and unless the snoring is bothering the dog, I would not have the surgery performed. More important would be regular attention to keeping the nose folds clean. Thanks for raising the topic, though. Let us know what you decide. Feel free to post a picture in the photo gallery.
