White dobes

joce Nov 24, 2004 10:43 PM

I have always heard that they were not a good thing. They can get sunburned and are more prone to bad things just because of the genes(recessive and what not). Yet I find an add asking 700-800$ for them! (I put the link at the bottom)It says that of course they have their AKC papers! Shouldn't they not have papers and the breeders stop breeding the parents since it is passing on bad genes?
I'm not to sure on how the papers work exactly but I have heard that you can have your papers taken away(or not be able to get more, not sure which) for doing certain things like not delivering the papers. But what about people who are obviously breeding for this trait. Can they have their papers taken away? (I think that was my main question in all this!) It just bothers me enough when I see a burned white boxer some people around here where breeding for, you just think people would want to get the breed right.

Of course I'm not saying to kill all the white dogs or anything, just don't breed them or their relatives because they carry the gene. I'm sure they make just as good pets but since they can have more health problems its the dog I feel sorry for.

AKC registered really don't mean anything. Any purebred dog can get papers, doesn't mean they meet the standard for the breed, nor does it mean they are quality dogs.

Hopefully, someone can answer the question on how the papers work.

I wouldn't buy puppies from someone like this, that's for sure!

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

They are considered albino dobes.
they are not a good thing, they are a genetic problem thats has been bred and bred to make a buck.
They are not rare. They have multiple problems. Blindness, deafness, tempermant problems (BAD) very high rate of cancer and the list goes on and on.
Any purebred dog can be registreed, but white dobes are Z factored and can not be shown, They can be in obedience but very few make it thru getting a title.
They ask 700 -800 dollars because they are a gimmick breed. Poor breeding for unsuspecting buyers who end up sorry.
Ethical breeders who really care about this breed will not breed an albino.
You can't get in trouble from AKC unless you lie on papers, mess up on record keeping, get caught abusing a dog etc
No, most albinos don't make good pets as their temperment has been somewhat ubstable. Also, you want a good pet to live a long time which these dogs usually dont.

Many will argue the point, usually the ones breeding for this and asking the high prices.
The doberman club doesnt approve of them (only because they know its a genetic defect)and will not want them bred.
The poor dogs always suffer.

Oh yeah, stay away from anyone who breeds white/albino Dobermans. The quality is so poor in addition to all of the other problems listed in the above post: eye sensitivity, sunburns, temperament problems, cancer risk....etc. They are a total gimmick color advertised as "rare". I can feel my blood pressure going up when I think about the people who breed them.

The way you can tell who is white or "white factored" is by the "Z" listed near the beginning of their AKC registration number. Unfortunately, AKC does let them be registered, but they are not recognized by the DPCA (Doberman Pinscher Club of America).

You do see them in rescue, and rescue works hard to find them good homes. Because of their issues, it takes a very special home before we will adopt one out. I know of only one Albino with any advanced Obedience titles and she is a rescue. Her owner is truly a wonderful person. Lexus can be seen at obedience shows wearing her "doggles". Last I heard, she is learning to herd!

I was just talking to my sister in Florida tonight, and she saw an albino at a dog park yesterday - she thought it was beautiful - I did some educating, but I'm not sure it got through to her. Arrrggghhhh! Sometimes family is the toughest student to educate!
