Horrible smell, female humping

ncosper Dec 04, 2004 04:24 PM

I have a 5 year old female beagle. In the past two years she will emit this horrid smell from time to time when she gets excited. She used to try and hump you leg, then sometimes would leave a brown fluid. This stuff smells horrible, and like nothing I can relate. Now we have a young male and sometimes when they play she will start smelling up the house. She also will sometimes get a little to into cleaning herself and start thrashing at it, and then starts the smell.
First of all does anyone know what that smell is? I was guessing pheramones but I'm not sure. Next, is there ANY way to stop it. I make her stop whatever she's doing and lay down, but I don't like punishing her for something that may be instinctual. There is however NO way I can let her continue, its horrible.

TIA

Sounds like anal glands. Need to see your veterinarian.

I would also think it is anal glands. When they get filled, the fluid smells really bad. One of my girls needs to have hers expressed on a regular basis. Time to see the vet, I wouldn't try to do it myself.
