I have a 5 year old Yorkie who has been going through some health/behaviorial changes lately. She has had some little sores on her belly and rump, that she has been getting once in a while since she was a puppy. She now also has dry, flaky round bumps on her back and neck as well. She was also starting to get aggressive, so I took her to the vet. The vet said she had a bacterial infection on her skin and gave me some antibiotics that made her vomit and I had to stop them. They also took some blood and checked it for some different things that could have led to her behavioral changes. Everything came back fine but they found that her protein levels and triglycerides were high and her glucose was low. They suggested bringing her to a Neurologist for a consultation, he thought everything was fine and mentioned maybe a bile acids test to check her liver function because the protein levels were high and because she is a Yorkie and this is common in Yorkies. Apparently this can also change their behavior when they can't break down protein. I took her for the test and the results showed pre-meal after a 12 hour fast the results were 1.5 and post meal they were 11.2, which were low. The vet said that she should come in and have the test done again because it showed lipemia and the results might have been effected by that and not accurate??
I also discussed with my vet that she had become aggressive and that she would sometimes guard a toy and growl and bite if you went near her or she would just snap or nip at you if she had something and you moved wrong. The dog usually eats a diet that consists of Innova (dry kibble all natural) and chicken breast that I cook for her. I have since then stopped the chicken, in the event that she could not break down the protein or if she is allergic to it and it is causing the skin irritations. I am feeding her dry kibble called Wellness which is a Lamb based food and I am not cooking for her. She has lost weight and I think is depressed wondering where her diner is. She is such a sweet, lovable good dog and this is so stressful to the both of us trying to figure out what is bothering her. Any ideas would be soooo helpful
