Enlarged heart in Yorkie??

Patti223 Dec 08, 2004 07:18 AM

Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking for awhile and enjoy reading all of your posts. They are very informative and helpful. I do have a question if anyone can answer it. Has anyone ever heard of an enlarged heart in a Yorkshire Terrier. I have a year old Yorkie and he wasn't feeling good for about 2 days. I took him to the vet and found out he has an upper respiratory infection and when they took xrays they told me he has an enlarged heart. I am heartbroken about this. I investigated a little online and found out that dogs that have this condition do not live long. I am beside myself because i love this little guy with all my heart and he is such a young dog to have this. I have to take him on Tuesday for an ultrasound and then i will know more. But i was just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem or has heard of it in a small breed dog? Thanks in advance to your responses.

Patti

Hi Patti:

My wife and i lost our beloved litte Candy she was not even three years old to an enlarged heart problem. She started coughing and we took her to an emergency vet clinic, she never came home again. She was given all the usuall tests and x-rays. The poor little girl couldnt breath, so we had to have her put to sleep. They can live with medication, but its not really a life. Please let us know how things turn out for you, my wife and i breed on a small scale and show yorkies in Canada. My name is John, and my personal e-mail is windriftca@yahoo.ca

P.S Sorry on this matter i can't help you or advise you, just be assured we understand your feelings as we have experienced it.
