How do we introduce a second dachshund?

zeus661 Dec 29, 2004 11:48 AM

We have a 4 yr old male about 17 pounds. He gets a LOT of attention when we are home. We don't pass by him without petting or acknoledging him. He even sleeps in our bed a few times a week. During the day from about 8am to 3pm (weekdays) he is in a crate. The crate is in our family room and he even spend a lot of time in it when we are home (door is always open for him and he just lays in it with the door wide open). I consider him a very happy dog.

We are thinking of getting a second dachshund and do not know how to introduce one to him. What would you advise? Thanks in advance.

If you get a female, you're not likely to have too much trouble. It helps to introduce them on neutral territory, off the home ground of either dog. If you get a male, you're likely to have housetraining problems--dueling tinklers. Not fun!
