Barking?

earwiggy Jan 03, 2005 06:27 PM

I am looking for a very small dog that is great with my family. In the search I found this breed. The dog I want needs to be a nonbarking dog. Will this dog bark frequently?

Thankyou,
Casina

The Jack Russell only looks small. In strength and habits, it's more like a 60-pound dog. These dogs were bred to hunt foxes, and a JRT can kill a cat. If you're looking for a very small dog, you might want to look more toward the toy breeds. Perhaps consider the Japanese Chin.

If the reason the dog needs to be nonbarking is that the living situation cannot tolerate even normal dog barking, you might want to rethink getting a dog. Cats are great, ferrets can be good, and some of the birds are pretty amazing. There are other choices for companion animals, too. All dogs make some noise, even those that have been surgically debarked, a surgery that is not recommended.
