Eye tearing?

zeus661 Jan 16, 2005 02:39 PM

We have a female Dachshund about 5 yrs old. Just recently adopted her so we don't know her background. She has what I would call are tears under her eyes. Wet spots, but not dripping. The person we got her from said it was nothing to worry about. It is not something new since we have had her. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Have your veterinarian check it.

I plan on taking her to our Vet. We have only had her two days. The adoption people we got her from don't have any Vet records but yet they said she only needs one shot. No dog tags or rabie tags came with her. I decided to give her a bath and when I took off her collar it had hair all stuck around it. I washed the collar and discovered it to be purple and not gray. It was that dirty. Her ears had not been cleaned in a LONG time. Also her anal glands were full and she started to smell within 24 hours.

I have come to the conclusion that the adoption people have NOT done what they had lead me to believe. I am betting they do their own Vet stuff if any. But I paln to have her completely checked out.

awww, poor girl, its good you are looking after her now, she's a lucky pup. yes, unfortunately lots of rescues are way too overwhelmed, low on funds & time. by contrast some are very careful. the former may save a higher quantity of dogs & just hope for the best, while the later focus more on health/temperment & preparing a pup to be re-homed with careful screening for the best match. I make no judgement, just different ways of dealing with this sad situation. best wishes with your new family member. what are your pups names? sorry if I missed b4

One time Riley had "perma-tears." He was digging and got some dirt stuck in his eye. The vet did a "corneal stain," to check whether the cornea got damaged. Ended up just having some ointment to put on his eye. I hope that your situation is this simple or simpler!

I took Madison to the Vet last night. Turns out she has an eye AND ear infection. The papers I got stated her tearing was normal, whatever that means. Her ears were just about black inside and I cleaned them minutes after the adoption people left. Had I noticed it when they were there I would have lectured them. Now I gave this adoption lady an extra $50 because I was stupid. The vet bill was $115. The money is not a real issue here but it kind of is. I paid a total of $300 to this lady to adoption Madison who is 5 yrs old. She is the sweetest little thing and appears to be adjusting great with our 4 yr old male.

Here is what I am getting at. She has an eye and ear infection PLUS I had to express her anal glad (because of smell) the same night we received her. The adoption lady said she was just at the vet and everything was ok. All she needed was one shot. I feel this lady is doing this as a business and not really taking proper care of the dogs. Do I have the right to ask for some money back? What would you do??

PS. She also needs her teeth cleaned.

Thanks

Well, as to what I would do, probably just forget about her and love and care for the dog. But another thing you could do is get the name of the vet who said the dog was okay and contact them. Then see where that leads you. I expect she lied about that, don't you?
