Our wonderful Sully has Cancer and needs help!!! Please help!!!

kermitson Jan 17, 2005 03:25 PM

Our wonderful longhair Dachshund has cancer (oral Melinoma). We had him check out and the doctor seems to think he will be ok by having surgery and taking a new cancer drug. The only problem is Sully is a foster dog and we (my wife, 2 year old daughter, and I) as well as our local rescue does not have the funds to have him treated. We are trying to raise enough money to save Sully. The doctor says we must act quick as this is a fast growing kind of cancer.

Sully requires a CT Scan at $900
Surgery to remove the tumor at $1500
Anti-Cancer drug at $2500

I am seeking donations not to me, but rather the Dachshund Rescue of Houston that will be paying for his treatments. There website address is:

http://www.dachshundrescueofhouston.org

They are all out of funds at this time. Please check out all the wonderful dogs they have helped out!

They have a banner you click to make a donation on the site. You can also buy a t-shirt to help raise money as well. Please make the donation is Sully's name. I am sure he will appreciate the chance at life and so will his friend a 2 year old little girl.

Please help as any donation is appreciated. Thank you fellow dogs lovers and god bless!

Mark

How old is your dog? Is this fairly common in dachsunds?

Sully is 10 years old. This is a very common kind of cancer in dogs! Make sure your vet gives your dog a through oral exam every time!!

Here is a picture of Sully with his sister and brother at Christmas. They are so cute!

This is the first time to reply to a message... I have been really busy with our 11 year old, Brutus for about a month. I saw the message about Sully and had to respond. Brutus had anal surgery October 2004. By Jan 2005 (on a regular anal gland check up) the vet had found a mass had returned and took him into surgery that day. We had the mass sent to the pathologist, and the findings were maligant. After 10 days in the vet and 5 total surgerys later(the wall of the rectum kept tearing) we have brought the old boy home. We know it is a matter of time, maybe 2 months to a year, but we have opted to not to do any more surgerys or chemo. As of today he is pretty much back to himself, so my two points are: 1) maybe you might want to make Sully comfortable? 2)have your pets anal gland checked!!
My best to Sully on getting everthing he needs.
