Zara is sick

TerraAndZara Feb 02, 2005 10:28 PM

This is really troubling me. At about 5:30 this morning, Zara woke up making this really awful sound....a dry heaving type noise. I pulled her off the bed and she puked up bile in to my hand (her last food was around 7 PM the evening before). I took her in the bathroom and she puked a bit more up. I brought her bed and crate in to my room and put her in the bed for the rest of the morning. When I woke up at 9 AM, she wasn't even excited to see me. Looked very sad. Around 11 AM, she vomited a bit more bile and wasn't eating or drinking ANYTHING at this point. It's now 10:25 PM (central) and she still won't eat or drink anything. She's puked up more bile about three times throughout the day (i'm assuming it's bile since she's had nothing all day, it's got a yellowish tint and a bit foamy). I'm worried.

A friend told me to wait until Thursday to take her to the vet. I'm really nervous. She hasn't eaten anything strange, no human food. She's on NutroMax puppy. Fresh water throughout the day. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

My $0.02 is get to the vet.

If this was my fur kid I would have been on the phone to her vet by mid morning. From your description it sounds like she is not herself at all. That would have me very worried.

My biggest tip, if you are worried then follow up on it.

Good luck to your little one and, please, keep us updated.

i agree with perttl

if it were mine i would have at least called the vet. with small dogs you can't wait a day or two you have to get right on it. they arent like large dogs were they might be able to 'come out of it" more so because of their size. too many things can go wrong.

i hope she is either bettter or you have already taken her to the vet.

keep us posted

She seems to be a bit happier this morning. She's at least wagging her tail but still not interested in her food or water. We're going to the vet right now.

Ok, just got back. She's ok. The doctor said it was most likely just a stomache bug. She gave Zara some Hill's A/D wet food to see if she would eat that. Z loved it and ate some. She said it was high calorie with lots of vitamins so she'll be getting what she needs. She also gave us some antibiotics. Now Zara is all curled up with Miss Gabriella (my cat) and sleeping away!

Thanks ya'll!

ha, another question!!

How do I get her to take her meds? They're pills that have been quartered...I tried hiding it in the wet food but that didn't work.

I used to hide ours in all sorts, little bits of cheese and pate'are pretty good or peanut butter.
