What breed mastiff is this???

sedatedforsafety Feb 06, 2005 11:42 PM

I have a new addition to my family. A female masiff of some sort. I currently have bullmastiff's and got this female from a younger guy that couldnt keep her in his fence so wanted her to have a good home. She is a pure bred dog, though unregistered as he purchased from the breeder as a pet instead of show dog so they voided its registration to protect their bloodline. This is what I have been told anyway, no concrete proof to this story but sounds legit from what I know atleast. Anyway she is around 2yrs old, 30inches in height, brindle coat, but different in build from any mastiff I have seen. Very large boned and tall but not the thick build of my bullmastiff or english mastiff's I have had in the past. Very loose skin especially around the lower neck and a longer nose/ears than most mastiff's. Her front legs seem a bit bigger boned than her rear. Her are some pictures of her:

not the greatest pictures but all i have at the moment. She resembles a Fila Brasilero to me, but I really have no clue. Is there any way to determine her breed? Anyone have ideas? Its not of greatest importance because she is not a breeder, just a loved family pet but im just curious what she is. Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone has.

Maybe look into the Neopolitan Mastiff? The loose skin reminds me of them.. I've never seen a brindle mastiff before though, she is interesting..

She looks mostly neopolitan to me as well, but the brindle and the view in the side shot almost looked plott hound. Could she be a mix?

Plott hound is a good guess, that would account for the bridle and her face is slightly longer than a mastiff's should be (although I'm only used to English mastiffs, so that's just my opinion..)

A Dog Owner's Prayer

Oh Lord, don't let me once forget how I love my trusty pet.
Help me learn to disregard canine craters in my yard.
Show me how to be a buddy even when my sofa's muddy.
Don't allow my pooch to munch postal carriers for lunch.
Shield my neighbor's cat from view--guide my steps around the doo.
Train me not to curse and scowl when it's puppy's night to howl.
Grant I shan't awake in fear with a cold nose in my ear.
Give me patience without end--help me be my dog's "best friend".

I was going to say that she was an old english mastiff but she looks too small to be a pure breed if she is two years old. The brindle is an accepted coat for the old english. I happen to have a 6 month old male brindle (I've put a picture below but it was taken when he was only about 4 months old .. he is MUCH bigger now).

Hello,
I love the pictures of this dog, While I am positive that she carries Masiff blood, I would stake my reputation on the fact that she also carried some other,Which is perhaps why she is not registered as a pure-bred. I have no experience with fila's except seeing a few at the shows and she looks nothing like them, or corso's either. Though perhaps she might have fila blood along with some other. Is she agressive towards strangers?

I wish I could be more help..
Cheerio.
Nigel
