HELP- - CKCS issues

penny52 Feb 08, 2005 09:22 AM

My CKCS has been in her first heat for about a week. She is very swollen and stiff and has trouble going to the bathroom. I need to know how long this will last.

Also, we got her from a breeder in AZ. The day she arrived she had a bad cough. We took her to the vet a few days later after we found that she also had fleas. They gave her medicine for the cough and helped us fight a flea infection. We've taken her to the vet several times, and once even to an emergency pet hospital. The breeder claimed that none of her dogs have fleas, and we understand that she could have gotten some from other dogs on the plane easily. She also says that some of her dogs had a cough about a month before we got her, but that when she was shipped she was fine. She did, however, send us a nebulizer treatment that we tried for a few months. Her cough went away at first, but even though she had the treatment twice a day for 20 minutes, she began coughing again. She still has a small cough, but it's not as bad. We have tried two different foods- first the kind that she was raised on, and Nutro puppy food, but each of those gave her diarrhea.

She currently has noodles and chicken twice a day, along with an appropiate dose of Pepto Bismol every day to take care of the diarrhea.

We live in OH, and since she came from such a dry place, we have tried giving her medicine for all different kinds of worms. I wonder if this may be an allergy of some sort. We have had the opportunity to exchange her for another (healthier) dog, but our family loves her too much. She is a very sweet dog, and very cute.

If anyone can offer help for either of these problems, please reply or e-mail me at rockin2da7radio@yahoo.com -~- Thanks!!

I would recommend that you not medicate your dog on your own with nebulizers or wormers or anything else. She sounds quite unwell, and a veterinarian needs to be determining her medications and dosages. I'm sure you're very frustrated because she has required vet care, but she needs more.

This poor baby really needs a vet and now. Doesn't sound like a reputable breeder to have sent this puppy with all these problems. Please contact your vet for a full examination and consider spaying.
