I didn't think the white german shepherds were a recognized akc breed? Or is it the white dobermans I'm thinking of?

Either way, she's gorgeous! She looks so fluffy, you just want to hug her.. I'm just new the breed myself so I don't have much info for you other than to keep her as busy and tired as you possibly can, they're so much easier to train that way..

Good luck with your new girl

Since you'll be training right from the first, you'll head off a lot of problems that way. Medically, have your veteriarian watch her closely for signs of hip problems, which would interfere with service dog work. And you might see some tendency to skin allergies.

I'm definately no expert, but I had a German Shepard for 12 years, but he was a great dog compared to my friend's dogs. Mine never barked in the house, and was pretty easy to train. He was a little too smart for his own good though - learned how to manipulate us fairly early on, but such a great personality! I was only 7 when we first got him, and he was always great around me, put up with a LOT from me ..lol poor guy. I'm sorry, I'm blabbing, he was such a great guy though. Come to think of it, I've hardly told you anything at all...sorry. Can't think of anything right off the top of my head, but if you have any questions...write back on the forum.

If you are looking for a GSD's traits and behaviors what are you comparing it to? It would be much easier to explain to you that way. When does she start training? Will you be doing it yourself or will it be formal training for an assistance dog? It would be easier to answer your questions about personality of the GSD with this info to start with.
Please post back so that we can help!

wow, howd you get a AKC white gsd??? akc doesnt accept white german shepherds. neither do any foreign clubs such as canadian kennel club or united kennel club. thats pretty impressive, I bet everyone who owns a white shepherd will want to talk to you to know how you did what they were unable to do.

White German Shepherds are disqualified from earning AKC champions but are registerable if they are born of two AKC-registered GSDs. So there are plenty of white GSDs registered with AKC. They can enter other events, just not dog shows like Westminster. UKC registers white German Shepherds as a separate breed, so there are plenty of UKC-registered white GSDs, too. I don't know about the foreign clubs.
