Whew! Rambunctious

My dobe is like 14 weeks now, just got his ears cut, waiting to get the stitches out, but anyway I was just wanting to know different behavior patterns of different dobes. Mine when he wakes up then uses the bathroom is wild, he LOVES to play, he gnaws on everything from ur hand(he tries not to hurt you) to covers, shoes...just anything in his site at the time. Then he will sometimes just settle off on his blanket, he loves to eat, he'll eat nearly anything. I was also wondering about the age they start mellowing out, where they will just sit beside u on the couch or something... anyways share ur stuff

Dobes were bred to be able to work all day, and he is growing into that ability. He won't mellow out for a long time!

If you wanted a mellow breed, you picked the wrong one - LOL! Seriously though, your pup will go through lots of changes and need tons of training (go to obedience classes with him). They do start to calm down at about 18 months and by 2 years will hang out on the couch for some mellow time in between play periods.

I consider this breed to be very puppyish for about 2 years.

My Dobe was the same way.
What worked for us best was EXERCISE!
Swimming worked the best, a couple hours of swimming seems to really tire him out. He has destroyed couches, shoes, blanket, ect. before I figured that out.
He's almost 2 now, and I can finnally trust him to be left out in the house alone. He still plays like crazy, espetially when another dog is involved, or if he just pooped!
Around 8PM he slows down.

hi

Zorba- male 3yrs, desexed. Quirks; wont walk in puddles or the rain, even if bustin to widdle, i have to watch he doesnt come inside and pee if it is raining. will only go in the surf if it is a really hot morning. Dont know how he will go at agility if the weather is unkind- he'll be running for the car-lol!!( our first class is tonight- lucky it is summer here and we wont see rain for months!!)

on the other hand Kya - female, spayed 3yrs LOVES water, runs straight to it at the beach, splashes in the buckets of water they drink out of, her toys get dunked in (to wash them? who knows, sticks her head right in up to her eyes when she drinks, chases snapping at the sprinklers, deliberatly walks in puddles!. she was so water mad that I was worried she may be diabetic- a 10 min test proved neg. so Im happy know to just laugh at her.

p.s. these two still race around with each other but are happy to sit at my feet when i study although they still like to nibble my toes!!

Beastibacon, my first Dobe fell in a pond and went to the bottom, I had to go in after her. Did your Doberman swim instinctively?
Sassy is four years old and she is still rambunctious, she has had obedience training, and we walk two miles twice a day. Couldn't keep up with her without that. She also has a "little sister" Dobe mix, Annie to burn off some of that energy with.
"High Energy" describes the Doberman well.

not sure if it was instinct or that she is almost fearless, kya was already happy at the beach when we got her, i have only had her 8 months (she is 3 yo)

Zorba was suspicious straight away. he has slowly learned that it is okay but only ever gets 1/2 wet.
