dog with swelling

doxielover Feb 19, 2005 06:17 PM

A new puppy i got about a week ago, late last night I noticed a swelling the size of a ping pong ball on the side of her head, a little under her ear and it extends to halfway under her jaw. she was not fed well, or cared for before i got her. she has a vet appointment in a few days- the vet said it sounds like some kind of abcess is forming. the swelling is firm-not super hard, but not really soft either. he said we should put a really got rag on it for 10 min twice a day to see if it starts to drain. it worries me because she is too small for an 8 week old doxie, and it makes her head/jaw look bigger than it is. is there anything else i can do for her?

I would take the dog to an emergency veterinarian if necessary, not wait several days. I think this needs to be looked at sooner than that.

Yeah, I decided to do that anyway-I don't like the sight of that thing. The only vet around on a weekend is the one I called, and he said if the swelling isn't down by tomorrow he wanted to see her.
i think I am going to see if I can get her in today. I was just wondering if there was anything I could to to help the swelling until I can get hold of them.
