Orchitis questions

Claundyke Feb 21, 2005 11:10 PM

I came home and found my male Boerboel walky stiffly and acting very painful. After a quick check over, I discovered his testicals were very swollen, painful and he had a high fever. He had been with a female in season, but she was pretty much done. This was over the weekend, but I called the vet immediately. We gave the dog some high powered antibiotics to get his fever down. The next day we did blood work to try and determine the cause. A brucellosis test came back negative. The vet told me, the dog had Orchitis and that he may never reproduce again. Has anyone had this problem before and if so, what was the outcome? It has been several months and still no viable sperm. Should I just give up and neuter the dog?

Statistically, the average breeder remains in a breed for five years. The mark you leave on that breed, good or bad, is entirely up to YOU!
