Hacking and coughing

lyzni Feb 26, 2005 11:08 PM

My little baby eats EVERYTHING he can find on the floor. He's like my little vaccuum cleaner. I'm just kidding, I'm actually very clean and I try to vaccuum often so that he CAN'T find too much stuff to eat. Well anyway, now he's starting to hack and cough a lot. Nothing comes up when he does it. It's like something is itching his throat. I'm not sure if it's because he eats things that he is not supposed to, or if this is happening for another reason. Other than that he's been perfectly fine. He's active and eating, he doesn't seem sick at all. Also, a lot of times I'll wake up in the middle of the night to him coughing. This mostly happens at night. Should I call the vet? He has an appointment in a week and a 1/2. SHould I just wait til then to ask?

Keep your appointment with your vet, however, a phone call wouldn't hurt. I had a pomeranian who coughed a lot and it turned out to be a collasping treachea (sp?) He was fine and healthy just coughed a lot. Good luck

I took him to the vet just in case and he has kennel cough. They said it might be a side effect from his vaccines, but they gave me antibiotics anyway. Now the only problem I have is getting him to eat his pills. He's such a picky eater this is almost impossible!!!

Ah. . .the picky eater. . .lol, suggestions: if you have a cat and have can cat food, I have found that my dogs will do almost ANYTHING for a lil taste. Peanutbutter also works wonders, hotdogs and cheese, just to name a few. Stick the pill in something squishey so that your lil Chi can't smell good luck!
