doxie's losing lovely locks

webmaster Mar 01, 2005 11:59 PM

hello doxie lovers!!
i read this message board almost every week to see what is new... my question is i have 2 doxie's, one is three years old (mini) and the other is eleven(standard). my mini started losing hair on her chest, tummy, behind ears, and slightly around her eyes. she has been checked for thyroid its o.k. vet told me to get her melatonin, a natural sleep aid for humans,to stimulate hair growth. didn't buy it. my other doxie has just recently started losing hair on his chest and tummy, but this is after a canerous growth was removed from rectum wall. does anyone have any reason why? and how to help? thanks a bunch!

Anesthesia can cause hair loss. But for the other dog, you might want to ask your vet to refer you to a veterinary dermatology specialist. They'll get to the bottom of it.
