lost dog

tessjo Mar 03, 2005 05:53 AM

I lost my 2 dogs Tuesday night. One is a five year old Doberman I adopted 4 months ago from a humane society. The other is a 2 year old mix breed I have had since she was 6 weeks old.The same night they got lost the doberman came back 4 hours later. The mix breed was gone over night then turned up at a home about a mile or 2 away. The man that found her said she was very cold, hungrey and her paws were icey.I was very glad to get her back.My question is..She was acted very strange since she got back. She seems very sad and depressed now..She just lays around.I do not know if that tramitized her just from being lost or what that does to a dog being lost for almost 2 days in freezing tempertures.Do they have commonsensto know they were lost and confused? What can we do to help her feel better..Any help would be great..Thank you

I would take her to the vet (very soon!), just in case she got into something she shouldn't have while she was away.. You never know, she may have snuck into someone's garage and found some antifreeze or something..

I would just make sure that she's not sick..

I really would have the vet check her if not back to normal in a day or 2 as she may have eaten something bad. CHECK HER POOP for diarrhea etc. Other than that, treat her normal as your concern may be fueling her behavior. I am so glad you got them back! Hopefully you have fixed whatever allowed them to escape before.
