Well I was considering buying a Pitbull, but ive heard bad things about them with other animals and people, and them being over protective, i dont want it to grow up and fight or bite my Dobe and vice versa

It really all depends on the dog. I know some pits that get along fine with other dogs but I also know a couple that can't stand other animals. Maybe if you adopted one from a rescue(which there are a ton right now) that was already mature and they knew it liked other dogs or not. Every pit I have ever met loves people though. Even if they don't like other animals. But don't buy one when there are so many that are sitting in shelters now. They passed another ban somewhere in canada and now there are sites all over just trying to find tons of dogs from there homes. I'm sure there are even puppies if thats what you are set on. http://p066.ezboard.com/bontariobulliesinneed
Good luck on whatever you decide!

It's so sad.. I'm in Ontario and considered adopting a pit just to get it out of the shelter but when they're in public they have to be muzzled and on a leash less than 6' long.. and the particular city I'm in has had a ban on them for over 5 years, so bringing new ones in is illegal..

I don't think the ban has been passed quite yet though.. It was supposed to be January 1st but something happened.. It's very close to being passed though and shelter staff are starting to panic.. There are so many sitting in shelters and nobody in Ontario wants to adopt them and have to have them muzzled basically the rest of their lives.. It's the ones in Northern ON that need the most help, because it's so far from the US.. Ontario is the size of any 5 american states combined, so there are lots of pits that need help.. Even our neighbouring province on one side is trying to ban too, so these dogs can't even really go anywhere in Canada..

I forgot to add that the day after this bill is passed every pitbull in every shelter (including Staffies, a couple of other breeds, and anything mixed with those breeds) will be euthanized.. That's why there are so many right now, because the bill hasn't been passed yet. Once it is, finding a pitbull here will be virtually impossible. I also heard that they're trying to make it so that once the bill is passed transferring ownership of an existing pit will be illegal so anyone who doesn't want or can't care for the dog any more will have to have the dog euthanized.

Have PittBull been causing that much trouble there? That is a very tough stance an a breed. Im assuming that the majority of these dogs is causing dog fights/ biting kids etc. or did one look at the wrong pollitician the wrong way.

Pitts Ive known in aus are very people friendly (but not with cats). Alot of breeds (and bitzers) have trouble being social with other dogs. It seems harsh(from the other side of the world ) to target one beed like that.

Can you explain more?

If you did it, it should be opposite sex from your Dobe for the best chance of no fighting. But it's a big responsibility, much more so than the well-bred Dobes of today. Be sure to check if you would be able to keep your homeowners insurance, too.
