Feedings how often

Angel4791 Mar 08, 2005 12:38 PM

I have a Yorkie..he was born Dec 22/04. At 8 weeks he weighed 1.6 lbs. He is currently eating Eukanuba small puppy bites and we are feeding him 3 times a day. He is doing well... paper trained, and has slept in his kennel all night, 7 hours since we brought him home. He is amazing. He eats his breakfast and his supper great but at lunch he only eats 3 maybe 4 pieces of kibble. Everything I have read says he should be eating 3 meals a day until 4 months at which point he can eat 2 times a day. I have also read that Yorkies need to continue to have 2 smaller meals rather than 1 large on to keep their blood sugar regular. Is he too young to switch to 2 meals?

Thanks

Yes, he is too young to switch to 2 meals a day. All dogs, all sizes, need to eat at least twice a day. A dog as small as yours has very little reserve and can seizure if he goes too long without food. I'd feed 4 times a day. But definitely no fewer than 3 times a day.
