Arched back

lola18 Mar 09, 2005 05:01 PM

Can anyone tell me why my yorkies back is so arched? It looks painfull but she is as happy as can be. She does not act like it hurts her. Ive never seen a yorkie with a back like that before. Can anyone tell me if its a problem? Thanks

If this is a new behavior, she needs to see a vet quickly. If you just got this dog and she's an old dog and is comfortable, it might be an arthritic change that is not bothering her. Still, I would definitely have it checked promptly.

No, mimi is only 5 months old. Her back has been like that for a while now. She has been to the vet and he didnt say anything about it, but i didnt mention it. It might be because she is long and she is so short. Thanks alot for your help.

You'll need to take her to the vet and specifically ask about this. The vet will not necessarily bring it up unless you do.

your breeder should be able to tell you & you should be able to see her other dogs. I've only seen 1 yorkie pup & it seems to me that it did have a slight arch like some doxie pups do too. of course Doxies have some serious back problems. my vet is really good with joints, etc & does some intense 'manipulation', a vet should be able to tell by palpation if there is any disk abnormality. its good to get it checked now, so if anything changes later, the vet will recognize the difference. She's a doll. Best wishes with her.
