shedding

LSIEN Mar 17, 2005 11:36 AM

I'm new to having a dog in the house. I am amazed at all the hair I can sweep every day and could make a hair ball that fits in my hand! uhhhh my daughter loves him so much I'm trying to
to be paitent and understanding because I love this pup too, but does it get any better? or will he always shed like this?
PS: he is 11 weeks old

Well, I don't know this breed in specific, but I can tell you two things:

1) A lot of his shedding depends on the food that he is eating.. If you were to mention what you're feeding him and your problem on the nutrition board someone can tell you whether there is another food to feed that would help with the shedding.. For example when I got my dog 2 months ago he was shedding like crazy (he's a german shepherd/corgi mix) and was eating Nutro natural food. Now he's eating Canidae and I've gone from cleaning the floors (and stairs, and furniture) every other day to almost every 10 days.

2) He will always shed. There's nothing you can do to stop it but like I said, changing his nutrition could put a huge dent in it and you might benefit from buying a vacuum especially designed for pet hair. I forget the best brand everyone's been talking about but I'm sure someone will mention it.. I think there was a big long post about it on the Shiba board. That way when you clean the floors, you know for sure that you've got all that hair up for at least a few hours

Having a puppy in the house is a messy ordeal, unfortunately.. Good luck
