puppy wont eat, spasms..

king_cobra Mar 19, 2005 05:59 PM

i am having some trouble with my new chi puppy.. he is about 5-6 weeks old and wont eat. when i first got him he would eat a little bit of his normal puppy food, but after a few days he stopped eating(i think it was making him sick, he threw up a few times). i noticed he started looking very unplayful and limp. i thought he might just be tired, but then he started having spasm. this happened a few times over the course of 2 days, the last time he was foaming at the mouth and whining, very scary. we force feed him milk and that seemes to help, but he eventually gets to the unplayful limp like state.. he needs to eat, he hasnt in almost 3 days. he also hasnt defecated in a few days. we got him soft lamb food and he wont even taste it. i know i should take him to the vet, but i really dont have the money and he seems to be doing better since we started giving him the milk. is there anything i can do to help him? i hate trying to pry open his mouth to get some bits of food or milk in him ..

Listen please, this is very serious. I am a breeder of these wonderful little dogs. I am sure your baby is suffering from low blood sugar(hypoglycemia). The spasms you mention are seizures and your puppy can die. If you have any honey or syrup, rub some of that in your baby's mouth right now!! Then take your baby to the emergency clinic nearest you!! This is a life threatening situation for your little one!!! You can also buy some nutrical at the pet store. It is in a tube, it has many vitamins and minerals that your baby needs and will help regulate his sugar. Please seek help for your baby right now!! Please, or he will die.

If you cannot afford a trip to the emergency vet, please go to the nearesr pet store and get some Mutrical. Ask someone to find it for you. Give some to your baby right away. Get some baby foor, the meat kind and give your baby some of it. He has to eat. Also make sure he drinks or he will become dehydrated. Do not give him milk like we drink. It can cause him to be sicker than he already is!!! Email me if you want. mamajchis@heartoftn.net

How did you get a Chi puppy at 5 weeks old anyway?? From everything I have heard and already know about Chi's they shouldn't leave until at least 8-10 weeks. Probably why he is going hypoglycemic on you, breeders usually can tell the signs of that sooner and fix it. I know it occurs in smaller pups.
