My 16 year old lab mix has started eating paper. Any paper - books, trash, tissues, etc. He has even ripped the toilet paper holder out of the wall twice. Help!
Why does he do this? How do I get him to stop?

Why does he do this? How do I get him to stop?
I would love to know the answer to how to get him to stop!
My dog is much younger, only a year, but prefers tissue over even pork chop bones.. He tries to eat all accessible books in my bookcase, and has literally eaten my homework before..
I asked about this below and the answers I got were that it is very common for dogs to do this, and really the only thing you can do about it is to make sure that all paper products are out of reach. In our house the bathroom door is always closed and papers, books, and tissues are over 4' off the floor.. The only exception is that we moved a bookcase to the bedroom, and Kaiser is never allowed in there..
I would get some other advice from others here and maybe even check with the vet though. If your dog is fairly old and has just started doing this there may be a nutritional deficiency or some health problem related to his age..
what are you feeding your dog (brand, etc.?)

This kind of change in behavior in a dog of his age likely represents a change in his medical condition.
