vets in illinois who perform ear croppings?

scameron83 Mar 31, 2005 11:25 PM

Hi I read on the internet that some vets will perform ear croppings on older puppies. I thought it had to be done by a few weeks old but I guess I wasn't sure. I have a 5 1/2 month dane and a 8 week dane who has his ears cropped. After seeing how big the head on my 5 1/2 month old has gotten recently I wanted to know if I still had time to get them done. I noticed that Danespot lived in Illinois and if you had anyone that you go to for something like this. If I read a bad article and this is not the cause about older cropping please let me know. In no way do I want to cause any significant trauma to my dog if it is just too late to be done.

5 1/2 months old is WAY too old to have the ears done. They would never stand, no matter what any vet or any other person will tell you (and some vets that do boxers may tell you that the ears will stand... dane ears are NOT like boxer ears.. at almost 6 months old your pups ears will not stand). Cropping an older puppy or recropping an older dog is also much more traumatic and painful than cropping a younger puppy... so....

Learn to enjoy those floppy ears natural They are soft and velvety and fun to rub and pet

Okay thank you for letting me know. I do like the floppy ears so it's not a big deal about not getting them cropped. I thought it was too old but I guess some people would rather have your money than be honest about them not standing.
