Vaccines

Does anyone know if it's common for Chi's to be in serious pain after getting a vaccination? The past two times Murphy went for his distemper shot, he's come home and then hours later was literally unable to move because his muscles were so sore. Maybe he's just a wimp, and the doctor told me later on that that was normal. I called the emergency vet the first time it happened and they said that little dogs especially get really sore from the shots. I don't know, but if you ask me, not being able to move is pretty serious. He only gets one shot every time, and we have to go back in 4 days to get his last distemper. Anyone know of anything I can do to help him feel better also? Thanks!!!

Sounds to me like a vaccine reaction that will only get worse with continue vaccination. Most vets don't acknowledge this type of reaction however. I am not a vet, however I am the owner of a dog that has been severely damaged by her vaccines and at almost 8 years old, we still fight the damage.

How am I supposed to diagnose this condition? What do I go about doing next?

How long has it been since the last vaccine, and what symptoms are persisting?

I saw in another post that he is about 4-5 months old, has the vet vaccinated him for rabies yet? What future vaccines are scheduled?

There are two ways to go about this. *Most* conventional vets will tell you that this is normal behaviour and that the vaccination schedule should be continued.

Many of us that have dogs with "vaccinosis" (disease induced by vaccination), would encourage you to go a more holistic or homeopathic route, which would include no more vaccines and finding a vet that practices a different type of medicine.

The next step is up to you and what you decide you want to do. If you decide not to finish your vaccination schedule, then you are going against conventional wisdom (I haven't vaxed in over 5 years). If you want to treat the physical problems, conventional meds don't have treatments and you have to look towards alternative medicine.

There are lots of vaccination articles at the following site if you scroll down to them

The symptoms (he is extremely sore) start to occur about 4 hours after the vaccination and continue for about another 4-6 hours. Usually, by the next morning he is ok, he is able to walk and run around. He is still a little sore if you pick him and and touch the spot where they gave him the vaccine.

Oh yeah, and this has only occured w/ his distemper shots. He's had 2 distempers and this happened both times. HE's also had a rabies shot, but they injected it into his back, and he seemed fine. With the distemper, they inject it into his shoulder. He has his last distemper today at 4. Ugh.

My chi (BOO) was sore for 2 days after getting his booster shots at 9 weeks. Think about it ! They are sooo small and fragile...that needle has GOT to hurt !
