NJ Herp Law question?

reptNnj Oct 09, 2003 02:30 PM

Is it true that in NJ you have to have a permit for a ball python but not for a boa? Also does anyone know the differences between the permits(individual hobby, wholesale, retail)? Does one permit cover all the snakes you have or do you have to have permits for each individual? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

Shawn

The following Reptiles are exempt from needing a permit:
American Anole
Common Iguana (Iguana iguana)
Boa Constrictor (Constrictor constrictor)
Eastern Painted Turtle
Snapping Turtle
Fence Lizard
Garter Snake
Tokay Gecko
Ribbon Snake

Anything else, you need a permit.

An individual hobby permit is $10/yr. and you can list all of your pet reptiles on one permit at no additional charge.

If you plan on breeding and selling, or wholesaling you will need to get an Animal dealer or pet Shop permit. It costs $100/yr.
