Feeding success story **PICS**

Marcel Poots Oct 09, 2003 02:45 PM

I bought a Bloodred hatchling this year from an awesome red Bloodred line. I am still on my quest to the perfect red snake. The hatchlings that come from this line are always notorious none feeders and each year almost every single one of them dies of starvation.

This is how small she was when I got her. The smallest corn I have ever seen.

After a few weeks she degraded very fast and she is all wrinkled. She does not seem to drink any water. At this time I start to force feed her chick legs.

After the first leg I waited a week and she looked somewhat better. The I fed her another one. Then I started to offer pinkies. She never showed any intterest untill to day I went to take out the pinky and it was GONE. I could not believe my eyes.. She ATE!!

This is the mom that produced her:

Marcel on a very happy day!!

The mother is beautiful! I hope mine look as good when they are full grown.

Congrats on the feeding success.

I know you want to keep the red color, but you might want to out-cross her with one of your really good feeders to try to get rid of the non-feeding tendencies. I don't know if you like the pewters, etc. but you could make your own hets this way and hopefully produce babies that feed better. But you probably already knew this.

That is exactly what I am intend to do. I am planning on getting a very red Okeetee male. Okeetee are the strongest feeders around and also the reddest corns around. These should produce some great outcross.. And keeping a few from these hatchlings and trying to breed these should make awesome Bloodreds.
