Ultrasonic Bark Eliminator

Jessie226 May 10, 2005 08:00 AM

Do these work? I've heard of dogs competing with the tones, or barking just to hear it, but what about the ultrasonic ones? I am assuming the other ones, make a tone that human ears can hear, the ultrasonic ones you can't like a dog whistle. Just thought maybe it would help curb Cookie's barking, but they're fairly expensive and I don't want to buy it if it doesn't work. Has anyone else used one of these before?
Thanks for any info anyone can give me!

Hi Jessie

Personally I have never used one but I did sell them. I used to work for Dogs Outfitter and Allpets. All I can say is that it seems to depend on the dog. They seem to work for some dogs but not all, same as electric fencing. The idea behind them is that they distract the dog for a short time when it begins to bark and through repetition of the distraction the dog barks less. If you could borrow one from someone to try first would be ideal. Your next option would be to try to find one with a money back guarantee. Not sure if Dogs Outfitter and AllPets is still the same but they used to sell their goods with a 30 day guarantee - no questions asked. Hope this helps. Both of these suppliers have web sites, they are the same company. But the prices at each are different so it's best to compare. If I recall correctly the web addresses are www.allpets.com and www.dogsoutfitter.com

Sorry Jessie I just checked out these sites and it seems they discontinued the electronic training aids but you could call the 800 number and ask.

Hey thanks!
I actually bought one on ebay yesterday. I got a brand new sharper image one for $22. So I don't think that that's too bad. I hope it works! Wish us luck!

Thanks again for all your info and help! Will keep you posted!
I tried wearing her out more before bed last night. We went to the park and ran hard for twenty minutes, but she still woke up at 5 this morning. I am going to try putting her crate back in our bedroom with us this weekend and see if that helps too. The ultrasonic thing is supposed to come on Tuesday.
