Bizarre Toilet Habits!

chinamark May 11, 2005 07:32 AM

This is a strange question to ask but maybe for people with more experience with dogs it's not so strange!

Is it common for dogs to defaecate half in one place and then save the other half for another place??

It's only happened twice but it's a bit inconvenient on her toilet trip out before I go to work and I'm in a rush!

Thanks,
Mark

I am assuming you're talking about #2? I know they do that with peeing, but I didn't think so about pooping. Cookie usually only poops once per break, but occasionally she has gone twice. I don't know if there is any way to tell her you want her to go all at once, I have trained Cookie to know what "Go poop!" means for when we are in a rush, but I don't know if you could train her to know what, "Go all of your poop!" means. Maybe someone else will have some better advise. Sorry I couldn't help.

Yes it only happens with the number 2's. With the peeng she's great. I think because she's a bitch she just squats and does it all at once and doesn't have the whole 'spreading the scent' thing that males do. If she did that with her pee as well the toilet trips would be a nightmare!!

Yes, it's common. It's her body, not a behavior issue.

Thanks for that...aren't dogs strange!! I can understand males peeing in several places to leave their scent but I can't see the logic in the no2...I guess it must be a similar thing.

I'll just make sure I stay out with her a bit longer after the first one just in case!
