My 8 mo old Blue Chihuahua

BEAUFASHION May 13, 2005 10:42 AM

Hi,
Lily is now 8 mos old & doing well except for her ears...
She is Blue w/Tan markings and she is hairless. Just a little fuzz on her neck & feet. She has very very dry ears. They are still erect but are dry enough that they have cracked in places and will bleed if bothered. I took her to the vet & he gave me some ointment to apply to them. But, it hasnt been helping just making them gooey & would never scab over. If they did start to scab she will scratch at them & then they will bust back open again. So, I am now using Utter Cream on them. They seem to be doing a bit better with this Cream. There are little chunks missing out of her ears at the tips & on the sides. I need help. Please help me if you have any suggestions or have you had this problem before??
Thanks, Amy

Really don't know about this, but have heard that some verythin coated or hairless or blue or fawn dogs can develop skin problems.

You might check out a website/message board for one of these breeds like Chinese Crested or American Hairless Terrier (Rat Terrier).

If the pup is prone to 'allergies', you might check out some of the specialty foods. Changes in diet can do wonders for lots of problems.

Hope you get those baby ears healed soon

Ask your vet to refer you to a veterinary dermatology specialist. That will get faster relief for the dog and save you money in the long run.
