Old Owners want to visit!

chinamark May 13, 2005 07:23 PM

I wasn't sure what catagory to put this under but I guess it will be about how Echo behaves with them and 'my' emotions!!

Is it unsettling for a puppy to have their old owners come to visit her? It's only been 3 weeks but they want to come already. I suppose it is nice that they still care about her and want to see how I'm treating her but also I've read that it can unsettle a puppy. Maybe it will just be a one off and when they see she is fine with me then they wont come again. Or should I let them see her at agreed intervals, maybe 6 months?

they should not be coming to visit in my opinion unless you had an agreement with them reguarding 'visiting rights'. was anything agreed upon?
my sister adopted a dog from a local shelter last year. the shelty mix did not work out in our household. my 2 dogs didn't get alone with the new dog so we had to get rid of her. a friend of ours took her to try her out with her dogs and she didn't get along with them either. so our friend found a home for the dog. well, my sister wanted to go visit the dog (it was hard to give her up even though we had her only 3-4 days). i thought "that is not right" it's not our dog anymore.
my sister did see the dog once and then that was it. she don't need to be visiting the dog anymore.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply.

When I bought her from them they did ask to see her in a couple of months to see how she was doing to which I agreed. That's why it worried me a little when they wanted to come round after just 3 weeks.

My friend spoke to them last night (they don't speak english) and they agreed that I could email them some photos instead. They were happy with that and now we will just keep in contact that way and I really don't mind sending them pics and updates every so often.

if and when there is a time for a visit, if it would be better done away from your home? I don't know, just a thought.

yeah I thought that too. If they do want to see her just once then that's fine but if they came into mine, and now her, home I think that would be bad for her so if the occasion ever does arise then I will arrange to meet them at a local park instead.

a bit late, but did they 'sign' her over to you? as in do you have an actual signed form? you might get them to do so if you haven't.

just a 'bill' of sale/transfer that you type or write out.

I agree about meeting at a park. Maybe they would be satisfied after that with photos.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Stupid of me I know but I didn;t get anything in writing. It was just a straight cash handover in a car park. Not the most ideal way to buy a dog but luckily she's turned out ok.
I haven't heard anything from them since I last sent them some pics by email so it seems they're happy with that.
