portable cooler/heater

weiside Oct 09, 2003 03:10 PM

I'm thinking of buying some sort of portable air conditioner/heater for an outdoor snake shed. I've been looking into this but none seem to have an automatic on/off system that will turn on the air conditioner at a certain temperature and turn on the heater when temperatures dip. They all either have timers or thermostats that do not go by degree of temperature. Since not all days are hot, I don't want to run an air conditioner on timer. All I need is to maintain a good ambient temperature for about 120 square feet. Any ideas on how I can do this?

Boy, am I anxious to see what answers you get. I have exactly the same dilema and have been looking for solutions. I priced a small window A/C unit at home depot for about $125.00 that, according to the HD people has a thermostat that will adjust the temp to whatever you set (more or less).

I originally thought about using a window air conditioner unit also, but then don't you have to cut out the window screen to mount it? I didn't want to mess up the windows or have them open permanently to accomodate the a/c unit. So then I started looking into portable air conditioner units but there doesn't seem to be much selection and the prices are high. Hope I get some good suggestions.
