Advice for moving to new home w/ 3 dogs

AngelasMommy May 26, 2005 12:09 PM

Kathy, I hope you and debra respond, you 2 have always given great advice over the 6 yrs I ave had Ben (Debra I am returning to AOL when I move in 2 weeks)

Anyway, here is the delema. The plan was to rent back our house for 2 days so we could take the dogs to the new house and get them used to it...Not happening. We have to close and move the same day because the people buying our house are being really greedy and want too much $$ for 2 days rent. Anyway, we have to move and close the same day. We are allowed to put the dogs in the back yard at the new house in the morning while we get back to the house for the movers to come. The yard is fenced but its chain link and we have always had a 6 foot fence. We know where 1 problem in the fence is, si I can put something in front of the gate opening until its fixed.

My concern is having the dogs pee (Specifically ben) in the new house. Our current house is all he has known since he was 8 weeks old, Jamie since she was 12 weeks. Maggie is a jumper but John thinks they will be fine. I am just concerned about peeing in the house.

I would crate them rather than leave them loose in the house or yard. Too many accidents can happen.

Well, I wish I still had my crates. Apparently when we took them apart and stored them pieces came up missing (Like the base and Jamie's door) Have no clue how, but things come up missing when you pack. So crates are now out because we no longer have them and we can't put the dogs in the house crate or not until we physically own it

So, there is a garage on the property with lights and all, should I put them in there?

If you use the garage, try to do a double barrier deal so that opening any of the outer doors will NOT release the dogs. Also, make sure no one else can get in there. If you're not going to be there, though, I wouldn't put the dogs there, either. How about boarding with your vet?

I looked at the local boarding places and I was not impressed with the facilities. I guess I will have a friend stay with them while we are moving.

Sorry to be so late, have been BUSY and didn't check the boards for last week.

I would simply crate them when you can't watch for a while til they get used to it.

Congrats on the new home!
