Question (Cherry eye)

lanak32 Jun 01, 2005 03:30 PM

Does any one know of chows getting cherry eye??
Our 5 month old male Chow has cherry eye, he had the surgery last Friday but it didn't take so now we need to go back and do the surgery again, can any one give me advice? I was asked by our vet if we would consider removing part of the glad that produces tears, she thinks it could be a good option but it could end up that, we would have to put drops in his eye the rest of his life..
Please advise if you can...
thank you

Didn't TAKE? Okay, well sounds like you made a big mistake letting a vet do it instead of specialist. Please, get the dog to an eye specialist. Removing the gland can create lifelong problems with tear ducts, dry eye, etc. That your vet is even ASKING tells me they do not know what they are doing. I'd ask for refund and get to closest university vet you can find.
