My sister has a greatdane. don't know how that would go. and my mom has a hawiian lion dog. but he is old and don't think that he will be around much longer. i don't know if they get along with other dogs or not? I am not sure I would recommend a BC for you. Certainly not till the old dogs is gone. BC's are premium herding dogs, as you may already know, and if they have nothing to herd they can and will herd the horses. If you can keep the BC from the horses via fencing and teach it NOT to herd the horses thru training that would be best. Walking on a leash is not enough exercise by any means. They need to flat out run daily and work their mind at the same time. Frisbee, fetching games, thinking games are best. Lots of solid obedience training is needed for good control with this breed. Fine in the house under supervision and control. Crate train any pup or older BC you get. Well breed and highly socialized dogs are a pleasure to work with and BC'c can learn almost anything you need to teach them. Find a local dog trainer that teaches clases an talk to them first. Get more opinions. Taking your BC to horse events my be very boring for the dog and can cause over excitement and excessive barking. Someone would need to help supervise the dog while you are competing with your horse.

Owning a BC can be a real challence but with the proper training and care they can be a great dog if you can keep their minds and bodies busy. Do your research and don't hurry to get on just for your B-day. Talk to reputable breeders, they will be your best source of honest information.
