Bowel on a string problem?

hobie Jun 19, 2005 08:55 AM

Hello

I am a new user here and a new owner of a 1 year old Chihuahua (mix??). He looks like the Taco Bell dog. We got him from the local shelter.

Sometimes (4 times in 1.5 weeks) Hobie poops and there is some poop left over hanging by a thin string. I don't ever see the string because it must be very fine. Hobie tries to drag it off but when that doesn't work I pull it off with a napkin. What is this? Is he sick?

Some brief background information: Hobie was emaciated when we got him. He was skin and bones. He wouldn't eat at the shelter. The shelter employees said that we would be taking a chance when we got Hobie. They felt that he wasn't eating because he was scared at the shelter. Since we started loving him and taking care of him, he gained weight and is eating on his own. Previous owners obviously gave him table scraps. This dog food thing must be new for him.

This seldom happened to our old Yorkshire Terrier.

I would love to hear from other users who have experienced this. Thanks!

sometimes when they lick something off the floor, they'll get a human hair swallowed,it's more common in long haired breeds from trying to groom themselves, but the smooth coats can pick up a long hair from somewhere too, don't worry about it,happens to my dogs often too, once when I dyed my hair,it was hanging on a bright magenta "string"

My Angel has this problem all the time. Just like previously mentioned, it is human hair that tends to cause the problem.
