Doxie eating her own stool ???

This is the 2nd time I cought my puppy eating her own stool. Why do dogs do this ?

Mother dogs do it in the litter to keep the nest clean. Best way to handle it is to keep it picked up (housetraining helps because you're there when they do it) so the dog doesn't get a chance to eat it. Doing this usually lets the habit fade out over time.

My Katie use to do this as a pup and I just had to be faster than she was and pick it up. As she got older she showed no interest in it but I still pick it up.

My dog does this so fast that you can not beat him to it. Also who wants to go outside in the rain or when it is 10 degrees to fight him over it. My male dachs has been doing this for 5 years. Our female has never. Plus our male will only eat his own. Go figure.
