HELP WITH HOUSETRAINING!

ldstull Jul 12, 2005 07:06 AM

Ok I just got a yorkie, she is 17 weeks. She has a favorite spot outside that she poops at, however her peeing outside is VERY sporadic. She only pees on the piddle pads in the house, I swear she is holding it for hours and then when we come inside she pees on the pad. I bought some of that Solution you spray on the grass, I haven't seen any benefit yet. suggestions?

I don't have any experience with puppy pads, but maybe if you put a pad outside in the area you want him to pee in, that would help. Good luck!

Thanks! We did try putting it outside and she doesn't seem to get it. I am thinking about doing the crate training to resolve this issue, she doesn't mind being in it.

I would ABSOLUTELY use the crate! Crate training and potty training go hand in hand. Does the pup potty in the crate? If not, then the pup should be crated whenever it's not being supervised, and then when it is out, you are there to watch and if the pup starts to go potty in the house, just wisk him right outside and put him in his potty area. Do you want to eliminate the use of puppy pads completely? Or use both?

I am thinking it might be best to eliminate the pads - they seem to encourage her to go inside.

I think that would be your best bet. As far as holding it, how often does he/she (Sorry I can't remember...)get to go out? With a toy breed, they need to be taken out a lot more than bigger breeds. If you did eventually want to use both, I think it would be best to re-introduce them after the pup is well trained to go outside.
Sounds like a cutie btw! What's his/her name? Any pics?

Thank you so much! We do let her out often, I leave for work around 8:00, my husband comes home for lunch at 11:00 and then back from work at 2:00. My husband actually took her out for almost 4 hours yesterday and she didn't urinate until he took her back in.

Her name is Daisy, I do have a pic, but I don't know how to insert it!

Thank you again.

She is adorable! I've always had a soft spot for yorkies. I can't beleive he had her out that long and she still wouldn't potty!
Well the best of luck to you! Hope it all works out!
