Urinary Incontinence

deniseg Jul 23, 2005 04:06 PM

I have a wonderful 7 year old spayed Doberman, named Jett. A few months ago, she began leaking urine, in her sleep. We went to the vet, ran some tests, and we decided to put her on DES. It has worked well, until last night. She appeared to leak some while walking ( I didn't see it, there were some droplets on the floor) & then while laying on my bed-- she was awake, had changed position 3 times, and left 3 wet spots. I'm going to take her in again next week, but I'd like some input from anyone else that's had this problem with their dobe. Thanks very much.

I have had one bitch with leaking and I had her on Proin (sp?) for several years with good results. I was able to stabilize her on one tablet for several years and only had to up the dose the last year of her life - she died at age 11 of bloat.

I know that some people have had good success by removing all grains from their bitches diet, and still others that use corn silk. I don't know much about the corn silk but apparently you can buy it ground at health food stores. I think the dosage is a VERY SMALL amount twice a day. I don't know enough about it to recommend it.

I would ask your vet about some of the other options, and the possibility of changing her diet. They may be able to give good info about these ideas.... and maybe not. Most vets are not nutritionists and are not up on holistic medicines, but some are.

Good luck to you.

Thank you so much! I have a friend that is really into herbs & such & holistic medicine. I'll ask her. Interestingly enough, I've though about eliminating grains, and even going to raw diet. Thanks so much for the tips.
