Embarrassing visit to the Vet....

Dob3rman Jul 31, 2005 12:20 PM

I walked in the vets office with my 9month old red Dobe, and signed in and this woman(woman #1)had a little pomeranian or something, well Gunner(my dobe) was going nuts, so i went and let them sniff each other. Well they both wanted to play and their tails were wagging, but i could see the discomfort on woman #1's face so i went and sat by the door, and made Gunner lay down, well this other woamn(woman #2) starts to walk in the door and says "OH no, i think ill just wait out here" i was like w? Ok then she walks back in and scurrys to her seat. Woman #1 says "idk i just dont trust Dobermans" I said why not? He doesnt hurt anyone hes just a puppy. Then woman #2 who was obviously lying says "Ya I used to have a Doberman, at about 7 years old he tried to turn on me and kill me and I grabbed him by the back of the neck and yanked him real hard and he snapped out of it and never tried it again" I thought to myself after she said that how stupid she was. and it upset me that she now has someone else thinking Doberman Pinschers are beasts

I'm sorry you have such a bad experience at you vets office. I've never had a bad meeting with a dobe. I've found them to be very sweet, loving dogs. All you need to is keep proving what a greyt breed you have.

What is your dogs name and do you have photos?

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

I'm sorry but when your dog is "going nuts" you don't reward it by letting it do what it wants to do. That was a prime opportunity to teach your dog not to "go nuts" when it sees another dog.

The vet's office is not a place to socialize with other dogs that may be sick or injured. Everyone is entitled to their own space in the office, and IMO, everyone should keep to themselves and keep their dogs under control. Nothing makes me crazier than people that let their pets visit my dogs when they are sick or injured.

Just because we love Dobermans doesn't mean that everyone will or should. They'd love and respect them more if we make every effort to respect their space and their concerns even if they are baseless.

There's no reason to doubt the one woman's story about her dog -- maybe she did have a Doberman that suffered a case of rage syndrome or something. Just because her experience is different from your own doesn't invalidate hers.

Gotta agree with this sentiment..I hate, hate, hate to have to sit in the vet's office with people who don't keep their dogs by their side and under control.
